Senior Technology Training

  • In the world of technology, things are moving fast. Sometimes too fast for those of us who use technology every day.
  • As technology continues to evolve for regular everyday users, at some point, people will begin to fall behind on technology as we know it.
  • People are growing older and living longer. We, the growing population may not be able and/or willing to adapt to the constant change in technology.
  • With that in mind, Envision One Cultivation and Enrichment Center envisioned how our elderly are staying up to date with technology. Well, the answer to that is, they are not.
    Some are really struggling.
  • Our elderly is in an era of unfamiliar territory, the computer world, The ERA of Technology.

Many seniors are intimidated by technology and those who try, may get frustrated quickly. Reason being, for (1) some of our seniors have basic reading comprehension and are slow to process information, (2) some are visually impaired and struggle to see small print (3) many of our elderly struggle with writing due to physical impairments, not mentioning the ability to type.
Our seniors are in great need of exposure to technology in a non-intimidating and frightening way. Our program will enrich their lives and help our seniors stay connected to the world as we know it. Those that desire to learn and become more familiar with technology can register for our program if they want to function better in the technology world. We are soliciting for seniors ages 65 and older to enroll in our program. All programs are 8 to 10 weeks long for up to 2 hours per day. Each program will start out meeting once a week. The number of days of the week we meet will vary depending on the need of the group and available staff to run program. Cost to participate in program is $20 per person. The cost includes journal, pens and other materials as needed.

Our goal for senior technology training is:

To reduce the loss of communication and connectivity with family members and friends, to enhance their traditional way of life and make valued connections with reality in the ERA of technology.

  • Seniors will learn the basic function of operating a keyboard via computerized technology (phone, tablets and computers).
  • Seniors will learn basic operations and the differences between a phone / tablet and computer.
  • Seniors will learn how to move smoothly between applications on computerized devices (applications include: search, emails, messages, contacts, camera and etc.).
  • Seniors will learn how to a create and change username and password with confidence. They will learn how to safeguard their username & passwords.
  • Seniors will learn advance computer processes after they successfully learn the basics.
    • We will teach and/or use alternative methods for impaired seniors who have hearing or visual impairments. Impairments can also include poor reading, low reading comprehension, and poor typing skills.
    • We’re looking for people to support our efforts in helping our seniors. Volunteers and Donations are welcomed.
    • We currently have 2 meeting locations: El & Em Community Ministries in Yale & Millard & Florence Stith Community Center.
