Mentoring Program

E1CEC youth mentoring services for children ages 5 to 17 will focus on therapeutic interventions and activities that bridge the gap between maladaptive behaviors and thought processes that contribute to social conflict. The services consist mostly of group discussions, group activities, and as needed individual and family sessions. These services are initiated by a comprehensive needs assessment and the evaluation of opportunities to learn and use daily skills to enhance social and interpersonal skills. Interventions are designed with structured treatment modalities that include the individual, assigned group members and the facilitator. Other disciplines that are incorporated to help support the individual succeed includes the parent, school, mental health providers, and community service agencies.

Group and individual community-based outings are periodic for exploratory learning and exposure. The services that E1CEC will provide for children and adolescents include observation, collaboration, group discussion and activities, social skills training, one to one session, exploratory group, individualized learning, debriefing following incidents, and acknowledgement for achievements of goals.

Criteria for services:

The population served is youth ages five to 17 years old, with or without a mental health diagnosis. The individual may have a history of and/or exhibit psychological and/or behavioral issues that has resulted in significant impairment. The individual must demonstrate difficulty in cognitive ability such that they are unable to recognize inappropriate social and interpersonal behavior. The individual must demonstrate a remarkable need for additional interventions and support due to interpersonal conflicts with family, school or community. Eligible youth and adolescents must demonstrate the inability to function appropriately in normal daily activities without conflict. Each individual selected for the mentoring program must want to improve current behaviors and/or thought processes. Each individual must follow the program rules at all times to remain in the program.

Exclusionary criteria:

The following individuals who are not eligible to receive youth mentoring services are individuals who do not meet the admission criteria, individuals exhibiting active psychotic behavior, and individuals with substance abuse behaviors that severely interfere with interactions. Maladaptive and destructive behaviors are not tolerated and will be evaluated and considered on an individualized basis for termination from the program. This list is limited and may include other exclusions not listed above.

E1CEC youth mentoring services for children ages 11 to 16 (Grades 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) will focus on therapeutic interventions and exploratory learning activities for children that desire to develop their awareness and learning opportunities. The services consist mostly of group discussions, group activities, and group adventures / explorations. These services are initiated by school personnel, family members and others in the community who suggest a student or child may benefit from the program. The program is designed to extend opportunities to discover and grow on a personal level and as a group. Participants will utilize enhanced social and interpersonal skills among children of various backgrounds. Our treatment modalities are structured, which include the individual, group members and the facilitator. Parental support is recommended with all community based exploratory learning opportunities.

The services that E1CEC provides for participants may include observation, collaboration, group discussion and activities, social and interpersonal skills training, individualized learning, exploratory group learning, debriefing, and acknowledgement of goal achievements.

The population served is youth ages 11 to 16 years old, both male and female with or without a mental health diagnosis who has a desire to learn and grow. All children who meet the criteria are welcome to participate. All behaviors must be well controlled. Each individual selected for the mentoring program must have a desire to learn, likes adventure and want to improve current behaviors and thought processes. Each individual must follow the program rules at all times to remain in the program.

Staff include qualified mental health professionals (QMHP), licensed mental health professionals (LMHP) and student volunteers.

Youth mentoring services is a 2 to 6 hour a day service. Staff schedules vary according to the needs of the individuals. Staff is available for crisis management. QMHPs are assigned a case load and they are the first line of contacts to manage a crisis.

Adult Mentoring and Coaching program is basically a young adult support program for individuals ages 18 to 35, who are just starting out and for young parents who need additional support raising children today. It’s a therapeutic program that give guidance and structured interventions for everyday issues that are hard to manage independently as a young adult. It also allows young parents to come together, voice their frustrations in a safe environment about raising children, share common issues and not so common issues as parents, and get advice, guidance, and support in the areas they need to improve their efforts to successfully raise their children.
